HEM TYPES
STANDARD FINISHES FOR STAGE CURTAINS
Top Hems:
A standard top hem is constructed by sewing the fabric to either heavy flame resistant 3 inch polypropylene webbing or 3 ½ inch Jute webbing with three lines of stitching and inserting black grommets 12ā on center though both the fabric and the webbing. Grommets are used to attach the curtain to the track or pipe by means of a heavy āSā hook, snap-hook or tie-line. Alternative methods for attaching the curtain to the track or pipe are sewn in Snaps or Blind Grommets. Stage curtains are typically sewn with 50% fullness and box pleats. However, some applications may require 0% flat, 75% or even 100% fullness.

Bottom Hems:
A standard bottom hem for floor length curtains are 5 inches with zinc-plated #8 jack chain weight encased in a separate pocket and sewed inside the bottom hem in such a manner as to hold the chain weight approximately 2 inches above the bottom fold of the curtains. Bottom hems for curtains that do not reach the floor would be 3 inches and the chain weight omitted. Drops and scrims could be fabricated with a pipe pocket in lieu of the chain pocket.
